Meet the Host

Mario Del Grosso

Mario Del Grosso will be your specialist facilitator for this journey, incorporating art, architecture, food, wine, and a total immersion in his beloved Italian culture. 

Mario is a student of ‘Art History’ and returns back to his cultural home of Italy on a regular basis to specialise in the Classics, Renaissance and Baroque genres. He began studying Art History as a mature age student in 2012 and continues with his studies at The University of Melbourne. 

Whilst studying, he became a fully qualified guide at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), guiding during many blockbuster exhibitions including:

  • Italian Jewels; Bulgari 

  • David Hockey; Current 

  • Van Gogh and the Seasons 

  • NGV Australia (The Ian Potter Centre) 

  • NGV’s Triennial 1

As a guide he has spent many years making art accessible to the public with his passionate and engaging manner. 

Mario recently returned from completing an Internship at the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art in Rivoli/Torino. The Castello di Rivoli became Italy’s first contemporary art museum when it opened in 1984. 

This itinerary has been designed specifically by Mario and he is using his personal contacts to enable the group a level of access few other tours would enjoy. 

Mario will also offer a series of private tours, tutorials, and discussions at the NGV, in the lead up to departure to provide a perspective into the various genres of art the group will see whilst in Italy.
